Big LCD and small fonts
Sounds familiar?
I have a 27” iMac. A fantastic machine, my second iMac. With a 27” screen.
Here it goes. The fonts are too small. Restart Xorg with bigger DPI? Hm, sorry, you are in the wrong world. No go.
In Safari I’m using ZoomBySite extension for making bigger fonts.
I changed the font size in Twitter, Reeder, ReadNow.
So sometimes big is too big.
But it is still a great machine.
Dave Winer’s response to the RSS abandon in Mountain Lion
A parislemon post about RSS that I actually agree with and doesn’t make me want to throw my shoes at him.blork.ly/yinELC

iPad 3
I will be running for the iPad 3.
Why did I not buy iPad 2? The answer is on the hand: it hasn’t a retina display.
Look, I have an iPhone 4 with retina display. How would it look like changing between a gadget with and a gadget without retina display? You can’t do that to your eyes.
And I won’t replace my current iPhone any time soon. It doesn’t matter what specs will iPhone 5 have.
Mountain Lion
I really hope that Mountain Lion will have better memory management.
I upgraded my iMac to Mac OS X 10.7.3 yesterday. Will report if the memory management is any better than in the previous version of Lion.
What is my issue with the memory management? My iMac has 12 GB of RAM (ok, Bill Gates once said 640K would be enough for everyone) but when that memory runs out the swap starts paging out. And that means hard disk activities. Pretty annoying. iMac becomes sluggish.
Sorry, but my machine has 4 cores. And I want that my machine just works.
Pretty simple.
Flipboard for iPhone was released today (and iPod; it is an universal app now). It’s a big thing, especially for those who don’t own an iPad. I have to create a Flipboard account.
Waiting for Apple TV 3
I hope it will have 1080p support. A faster CPU.
Interested in the new bluetooth features.
Safari 5.1.2
Apple today released Safari 5.1.2. Among other fixes it should fix now Safari’s memory management.
I had some troubles with my 27” 5i iMac under Lion. Obviously 4 GB of RAM isn’t enough for Lion. I upgraded to 12 GB. My machine works now smoothly. No hiccups.
About HP’s Thunderbolt rejection
To date I didn’t see any desktop or portable computer having a Firewire 800 port. Or more. That doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
Did you see?
The exception are Macs. Apple was the first to introduce commercial products with Firewire 800.
The next big question is: did Firewire 800 became popular, like, say as USB? Nope. Why not? (Remember, Firewire 800 is quite popular among Mac users, but that doesn’t mean that Firewire 800 is generally popular). Who knows. The answer isn’t important to me because I’m a Mac user who has a Mac with Firewire 800 and who is using it on the daily basis.
Now to HP. They said Thunderbolt isn’t for them.
HP is a big player in the computer world. What means HP’s rejection to Intel and Thunderbolt? Will Thunderbolt become Firewire 800 version 2 in the world of ports? Will Apple stay the only big vendor with clear plans implementing Thunderbolt? We will see.
But again, that doesn’t bother me. When I will buy a new Mac, it will have a (or two or even more) Thunderbolt port(s) and I will using it (them) on the daily basis. I only hope external disks won’t present a bottleneck for Thunderbolt (you know, Thunderbolt is thunder fast - 10 Gb/s, traditional hard disks aren’t; the raising star here are SSDs).
How to beat Apple
A very good post by Jason Kottke.
An another field where APPLE could be better is navigation. Yes, I paid for Navigon and wouldn’t bother me if Apple would start offering a free navigation service. But for now is Navigon my favorite navigation app.
Is the iPad future for video editing on a tablet?

I’m a big fan of both Apple AND C64 - and now this…
I found an interesting post on Hacker News that it’s maybe time to move on from the Commodore 64 software.
You can solve this problem by owning a C64 :). Yes, I own one.
The next question is: will Apple drop X11 in Lion? Hope not. I’m still using homebrew and Midnight Commander.
The new MacBook Pro i7
I am waiting for MBP i7 benchmarks. Especially interested in for GPU numbers. Why? A purchase is planned.
Oh, posting to tumblr over iPhone is nice.

I won’t make any predictions but hope Apple will enable “multitasking”.
