Instapaper vs. Readability

For me, there is no versus. For me, there is an “and”. It is very simple to explain: I use them both.

Reeder for both Mac and iOS supports Readability. I think this is a very nice feature. One very nice thing about it is that I can read Dave Winer’s linkblog feed. By default, Reeder shows you only the feed’s title. But after you click on Readability (Mac) or on its icon (iOS) you get the whole article. Remember, not every web site supports Readability.

Then there is news:yc. It is an iPhone app for Hacker News. It also supports Readability. Sometimes it is hard to read the original article in news:yc. No problem, just click on “R” and you get the Readability “version” of the article.

Now some words about Instapaper. Tweetbot supports it. Ok, Readability is also supported, but I use the free version of Readability and I can save only 30 articles. With Instapaper I can save 500 articles. Instapaper has an iOS app, Readability hasn’t (yet). That’s a big plus to me.
