This is a fantastic idea. Read the whole post, there are links how to make your own book if you want. Ok, you will have to print your own book but the content will be generated by the software.

Time
Don’t read everything in your RSS reader. Instead check your favorite blogs. Or check your these blog in your RSS reader. If you want to read the news, check Dave Winer’s river of news. Or set up your own river. Take time for other activities. Read some book, go out, visit your friends.

Both command line and GUI
I mentioned command line today. Now what about to combine it with GUI? If you are a TextMate 1.x user then I recommend to install a command line script for terminal usage. Start TextMate, under the Help menu click on Terminal Usage and it will install a “mate” script. What does it? You can open a file in TextMate from the command line with “mate file.name”.

Retina resolution
Speaking of big iMac screen, check Matt Gemells post about PDF images in iOS apps. That is what we need on the web pages. If I zoom in pages in Safari, the low pictures look awful. No, not only the content is important to me, images are also important. So convert your images to retina resolution and make the web experience better. Thank you. P.S.: Because retina displays are coming. On...

The new Techmeme →
Old news, I know, but I wanted to point out that Techmeme looks now a lot better. The interface has better functionality. Just click the arrow on the left. You will see what I mean.

Big LCD and small fonts
Sounds familiar? I have a 27” iMac. A fantastic machine, my second iMac. With a 27” screen. Here it goes. The fonts are too small. Restart Xorg with bigger DPI? Hm, sorry, you are in the wrong world. No go. In Safari I’m using ZoomBySite extension for making bigger fonts. I changed the font size in Twitter, Reeder, ReadNow. So sometimes big is too big. But it is still...

Command line
I use the command line more and more. I started backing up my email with offlineimap. Now I do backups of the email folders with rsync because offlineimap deletes all local emails I delete on the remote. Have to figure out how to avoid that. I installed mu today for indexing my maildirs. Homebrew has it. Install it with “sudo brew install mu”.

Droplr
Droplr is a fantastic tool for sharing pictures, text or links. It has a more awesome iPhone app. I use it for sharing on Twitter and for bookmarking. Its statistics shows how many views had the shared item. And it is free. The web interface is also very nice. Drag and drop.

iPad 3
I will be running for the iPad 3. Why did I not buy iPad 2? The answer is on the hand: it hasn’t a retina display. Look, I have an iPhone 4 with retina display. How would it look like changing between a gadget with and a gadget without retina display? You can’t do that to your eyes. And I won’t replace my current iPhone any time soon. It doesn’t matter what specs will...

Mountain Lion
I really hope that Mountain Lion will have better memory management. I upgraded my iMac to Mac OS X 10.7.3 yesterday. Will report if the memory management is any better than in the previous version of Lion. What is my issue with the memory management? My iMac has 12 GB of RAM (ok, Bill Gates once said 640K would be enough for everyone) but when that memory runs out the swap starts paging...

Backup your mail
Backup. Backup. Backup. I backup my mail now. I chose to do it with offlineimap. Yes, I’m a command line user ever since I started using Linux (Linux runs now only in VM’s). Offlineimap is in Homebrew (Homebrew is fantastic; the reason I’m using Homebrew is mc; Midnight Commander is sometimes an irreplaceable tool). I like maildir more than mbox. And do you know how big would...

DuckDuckGo
Time for a big change, too leave Google behind? I don’t know. But DuckDuckGo is a really good service as a search engine. I like the bang option. Try to search Tumblr with the !tumblr bang. It is fantastic. DuckDuckGo has a free iOS app.

Google, Google,...
I quit using Google Reader a few months ago. Sorry, but the new outlook is really bad and unpractical. My preferred RSS reader is Reeder now. On my iMac and iPhone. Ok, I know it still syncs with Google Reader but that is a good thing. Until someone offers a better syncs service for RSS.
