iPad 3
I will be running for the iPad 3. Why did I not buy iPad 2? The answer is on the hand: it hasn’t a retina display. Look, I have an iPhone 4 with retina display. How would it look like changing between a gadget with and a gadget without retina display? You can’t do that to your eyes. And I won’t replace my current iPhone any time soon. It doesn’t matter what specs will...

Mountain Lion
I really hope that Mountain Lion will have better memory management. I upgraded my iMac to Mac OS X 10.7.3 yesterday. Will report if the memory management is any better than in the previous version of Lion. What is my issue with the memory management? My iMac has 12 GB of RAM (ok, Bill Gates once said 640K would be enough for everyone) but when that memory runs out the swap starts paging...

Backup your mail
Backup. Backup. Backup. I backup my mail now. I chose to do it with offlineimap. Yes, I’m a command line user ever since I started using Linux (Linux runs now only in VM’s). Offlineimap is in Homebrew (Homebrew is fantastic; the reason I’m using Homebrew is mc; Midnight Commander is sometimes an irreplaceable tool). I like maildir more than mbox. And do you know how big would...

DuckDuckGo
Time for a big change, too leave Google behind? I don’t know. But DuckDuckGo is a really good service as a search engine. I like the bang option. Try to search Tumblr with the !tumblr bang. It is fantastic. DuckDuckGo has a free iOS app.

Google, Google,...
I quit using Google Reader a few months ago. Sorry, but the new outlook is really bad and unpractical. My preferred RSS reader is Reeder now. On my iMac and iPhone. Ok, I know it still syncs with Google Reader but that is a good thing. Until someone offers a better syncs service for RSS.

Paying for something
I shared a blog post by Pinboard’s author Maciej Ceglowski. In one sentence hi says this: if you want to use a web service for a while you must use a one you have to pay for. I agree. I am a Pinboard user. I paid for it 9 and something dollars. Never regretted. I am supporting Marco Arment and Instapaper by paying some fee evert three months. What is the result of it? I think a fantastic...

Instapaper vs. Readability
For me, there is no versus. For me, there is an “and”. It is very simple to explain: I use them both. Reeder for both Mac and iOS supports Readability. I think this is a very nice feature. One very nice thing about it is that I can read Dave Winer’s linkblog feed. By default, Reeder shows you only the feed’s title. But after you click on Readability (Mac) or on its icon...

Safari 5.1.2
Apple today released Safari 5.1.2. Among other fixes it should fix now Safari’s memory management. I had some troubles with my 27” 5i iMac under Lion. Obviously 4 GB of RAM isn’t enough for Lion. I upgraded to 12 GB. My machine works now smoothly. No hiccups.

Photography tip #1
Image review: it’s a feature that shows you the picture on your display right after you shot it. Until recently I though it is a pro-body option. Then I saw it on a Nikon D80 (I own a D90). Somebody didn’t read the whole manual. You, too? How to enable this option: Press the Menu button, the Image Review option is under Playback Menu (the first tab on the left).

wunderlist
I started using wunderlist on both my iMac in iPhone. I miss one big feature: repeating tasks. I really hope we will see this feature soon. But for now I’m using iCal for repeating tasks - reminders for paying the bills.

Making it fast
If you have an older laptop, buy an SSD drive. It will make your computer faster. I did the same thing and the performance of the MacBook Pro increased dramatically.  The SSDs aren’t cheap, especially if you need bigger storage.  Re-think. Reconsider. I know you will buy an SSD. … After some time of your purchase. I told you it will get faster, didn’t I?

About HP's Thunderbolt rejection
To date I didn’t see any desktop or portable computer having a Firewire 800 port. Or more. That doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Did you see? The exception are Macs. Apple was the first to introduce commercial products with Firewire 800. The next big question is: did Firewire 800 became popular, like, say as USB? Nope. Why not? (Remember, Firewire 800 is quite popular among Mac...

Flash - I went the way Lex Friedman did
Some time ago I read Lex Friedman’s post that he rejected John Gruber’s advice to fully delete Flash from the Mac. I did the same what Lex Friedman did. Some background. After John Gruber published his post post how to delete Flash from the Macs I was thinking to do the same thing. Why? Flash was too annoying, using too much resources, and I had some Safari crashes produced by...

There are some very good blogs. And hackers.
The first hacker I will mention is Brett Terpstra. He is the author of nvALT, a Notational Velocity alternative (yes, I’m using with. With a Simplenote account, you get a fantastic tool for notes). He is also a big fan of Pinboard (like me). If you want search your Pinboard bookmarks with Spotlight, you must read this post.

I'm a big fan of both Apple AND C64 - and now...
I found an interesting post on Hacker News that it’s maybe time to move on from the Commodore 64 software. You can solve this problem by owning a C64 :). Yes, I own one.  The next question is: will Apple drop X11 in Lion? Hope not. I’m still using homebrew and Midnight Commander.
